A summer internship that will give me the opportunity to continue to learn about software development and allow me to refine my abilities in that area.
Skills and Abilities:
Technical Skills
- Several years of practice with C/C++ and C# as well as several substantial projects in Python and Ruby.
- Two years of experience creating web applications in C# and ASP.net for WSU Student Computing Services.
- A strong background in networking. Includes experience configuring local area networks and small wide area networks. Have a solid understanding of network security.
- Worked on several large projects through all parts of the design process: from conception through testing, deployment, and evaluation.
- Used source control solutions such as Subversion, and produced documentation using Media-Wiki.
- Managed and maintained a Linux server hosting Apache and SVN for personal use.
Professional Experience
- Wrote a C++ server application to replay data from a CSV file as a data stream conforming to the C37.118 standard as a tool for unit testing new products.
- Made improvements to Wireshark, an open source protocol analyzer, to aid in the debugging of synchrophasor network traffic.
- Quickly familiarized myself with and contributed to Cougar Manager; a modular ASP.net web application that supports several departments at Washington State University with features such as on-line time cards .
- Wrote a module for Cougar Manager to process computer repair cases, keeping track of tasks needing to be done, as well as any progress made on the case.
- Lead a project to rework substantial portions of Cougar Manager's core timecard tracking systems to allow more flexibility for organizations using the system.
- Expanded a C++ application that billed customers for usage of our computer labs to accept multiple forms of payment.
- Taught myself Python by solving problems from Project Euler, and by creating a personal website using the Django framework.
Communication and Leadership
- Managed a team of five developers and three server administrators to provide high quality tools to WSU Student Computing Services as well as other organizations on the WSU campus.
- Demonstrated dedication and leadership by earning the Eagle Rank in Boy Scouts.
- Developed communication and teamwork skills by working on projects in a team setting in Boy Scouts, at school, and in my work at WSU Student Computing Services.
- Lead and directed the work of a 4 member crew at Camp Parsons, a Boy Scout summer camp in Brinnon, Washington.
